Stranded colourwork is used in these warm and multipurpose mittens.
Fair isle colourwork is a traditional technique which involves knitting with 2 colours, always stranding the unused shade across the back of work. It was developed on one of the most remote Scottish Islands as a way of using up shorter
scraps of yarn while simultaneously creating a thicker warmer fabric.
If its your first time, this simple pattern is easy to memorise, making a great opportunity to try out the skill for yourself.
Materials:
Yarn Club Silk Merino 8ply 50g, 2 x balls A and 1 ball B, a set of 3.25mm DPN’s, 3 x stitch markers, a stitch holder, wool needle and optional 10-15mm button for button loop closure
Tension: 26sts and 26 rows = 10cm x 10cm square
